Scholarships & Prizes

Face the Music is pleased to announce its scholarship program for 2017. Opportunities are currently available for Victorians to attend the annual Face The Music summit across the following categories:

Music Under Wings – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship

10 scholarships available

The Music Under Wings Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship will be awarded to ten (10) individuals of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island descent. Applications may be made by not only artists but also industry practitioners working in a variety of fields in creative industries. There are no age restrictions for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship, however applicants must reside in Victoria. Successful applicants will receive one full summit pass to Face The Music as well as financial support for travel to and from the summit (if required) to the value of a VLine/Myki pass. Successful applicants will be encouraged to apply for further workshop and special meeting opportunities.

Music Under Wings – Regional Participation Scholarship

10 scholarships available

The Music Under Wings Regional Participation Scholarship will be awarded to ten (10) individuals who reside in regional Victoria. Applications may be made by not only artists but also industry practitioners working in a variety of fields in creative industries. There are no age restrictions for the Regional Participation Scholarship, however applicants must reside in rural or regional Victoria. Successful applicants will receive one full summit pass to Face The Music as well as financial support for travel to and from the summit (if required) to the value of a VLine/Myki pass.

FReeZA Scholarship – Scholarship for young people involved with FReeZA

25 scholarships available

The FReeZA Scholarship will be awarded to twenty-five (25) young people who have participated in the state-wide FReeZA program. Applications are open to people who have had an active involvement in FReeZA and have demonstrated their commitment towards pathways into employment in the music and entertainment industries. Applicants may be musicians performing at FReeZA events, young people on FReeZA committees, or involved in other ways in their local community. Applicants must be under the age of 25. Successful applicants will receive one full summit pass to Face The Music as well as financial support for travel to and from the summit (if required) to the value of a VLine/Myki pass. FReeZA Scholarship recipients will also be provided with a one on one ‘Plan Your Career’ meeting with an industry professional.

Stage & Screen – Journey To Face The Music

(1 prize available)

The Stage & Screen Journey To Face The Music Prize will be awarded to one (1) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island artist or group that reside outside of Victoria to attend and showcase at Face The Music 2017. The prize consists of the following:

• Full Face The Music summit passes for all members

• One Face The Music showcase performance opportunity

 • Return flights and two nights accommodation for the artist up to the value of $3,000

• Transfers to and from Melbourne Airport

Eligibility requirements:

1. The artist must be:

a. a person of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island descent, or

b. a group that is fronted by a person of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island descent, or

c. a group that contains a minimum 50% of people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island descent.

2. The artist must reside outside of Victoria.

3. The artist can be of any age or gender.

4. The artist must be available to attend and showcase at Face The Music on 23 and 24 November 2017.

5. In the event that the winner of the competition is under the age of 18 years, a guardian over the age of 18 must accompany the winner at the guardian’s expense.

6. No replacement will be offered in the event that the prize cannot be claimed on the stipulated date.

7. The prize is not transferable or redeemable for cash.

8. Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
