Whether singing about the land, Toorak Cowboys, dead roos, Tasmanian convicts or hitchhiking around the sunburnt country, great Australian songs are littered with Australian names and landmarks. Is it a subconscious choice? When did we overcome our cultural cringe? Does it limit your chance of cracking it overseas or enhance it? Is there an Australian sound? Songwriters from pop, rock, punk, hip hop and indigenous genres discuss how our nationality defines some of our best music.
