D.D Dumbo (aka Oliver Hugh Perry) is the most exciting artist to come out of Castlemaine, Victoria in quite some time. His debut release is a five-track self-titled EP, aptly described as ‘experimental blues loop pop’. It is available as a limited edition 12” and a digital bundle via The Blue Rider, a Trans-Atlantic singles label responsible for introducing the likes Jagwar Ma and Kilo Kish to the world. Lead single ‘Tropical Oceans’ has already made its mark on numerous blogs around the world, including Line of Best Fit, Abeano, The Guardian and NME.
“’Tropical Oceans’, indicates a love of wistful indie-pop and the blues, with nods to both Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors in its arid, thumping beat, marching tempo and gusty melody. Toss in some oddball couplets, sung in Oliver Hugh Perry’s half-mumbled thrum, and you’ve a recipe for a bona fide weird-pop hit.” – NME
“What makes [him] all the more exciting is that it also sounds like nothing else being made in Australia right now” – The Guardian UK
“It captivated me immediately with its hazy desert blues sounds, industrial percussion and that wonderful voice of Perry’s guiding it throughout. It swims through your head in the best of ways.” – Zan Rowe, triple j
