David Roy Williams
David Roy Williams began his career in the Australian music industry behind a record counter in 1980. He subsequently worked for a number of import and export music distributors including a period with Richard Branson’s Virgin Music Group in the UK. David launched Shock Records with two friends in 1988, and the business quickly became Australia’s largest independent recorded music company. Shock expanded to incorporate DVD at the turn of the millennium, and eventually included Export, music publishing and clothing divisions. David exited Shock at the end of 2011.
He went on to launch promotion company, David Roy Williams Entertainment in 2012 and has since created further divisions including Vicious Threads merchandise, live event logistic services company – DRW Logistics, and record labels Capgun Kids, Breakaway and Public Opinion. David has served on the ARIA Board, as Co-chair for the ARIA Awards and as Chairman of the Australian independent recording association, AIR.
