Co-owner, Deathproof PR
After realising that she had found a way to write about music in almost every assessment in her three year Media degree, Emily Kelly figured it’d make sense to track down a job that allowed her to combine music and communications. After trying her hand at freelance music journalism for several years, Emily joined the PR team at Shock Records for over six years. In 2011 she started Music PR company Deathproof PR with co-worker Bec Reato with a view to assist ‘heavy’ bands – usually dispelled into the depths of the ‘too hard’ basket- find a place among Australia’s every expanding music media. Deathproof works with local acts at a grassroots level as well as collaborating with major labels and promoters on international releases and tours. Since inception Deathproof has worked with quality artists such as The Smith Street Band, City and Colour, Bring Me The Horizon, Frank Turner, Descendents , Bodyjar, Northlane, Dead Letter Circus, KoRn and Pennywise, as well as overseeing all on-site publicity for Soundwave Festival in 2013.
