Matt Gudinski
Executive Director, Mushroom Group

Matt_Gudinski_300dpi JPEGWith one of the most respected surnames in Australian music, Matt Gudinski is continuing to carve his own lane in the region’s industry. The son of famed entrepreneur Michael Gudinski, founder of the country’s iconic Mushroom Group, Matt now sits aside his father at the helm of the country’s biggest independent music and entertainment group.

Consumed by the industry since birth, Matt started promoting underage gigs at age 13 before starting his own imprint of the Mushroom Group, record label and touring company Illusive, straight out of high school in 2003. Now in its tenth year, Illusive has become a boutique powerhouse across both the label and touring worlds. The diverse label roster includes some of the country’s hottest up-and-coming artists alongside label mainstay and Matt’s first ever management signing, hip-hop trio Bliss N Eso, who have become one of the most successful Australian acts of the last decade with two #1 platinum albums under their belt.

While Illusive goes from strength to strength, Matt has diversified with the opening of booking agency Artist Voice in 2010, already one of Australasia’s biggest players with a roster that reads like a who’s who of hot music talent. Matt’s other interests include innovative merchandise company Drawing Board (launched in 2009), his partnership in cult magazine and creative agency ACCLAIM (launched in 2005) and brand new digital start-up Purifier (launching soon). In addition, Matt has reignited his involvement in the nightclub scene in which he cut his teeth with a number of venue investments in recent years.

As each year passes, Matt has taken on more responsibility across the wider Mushroom Group which culminated in his appointment as Executive Director in early 2013 as it entered its 40th year of operation with a new vision. The Group now includes almost two dozen music and entertainment entities including the likes of Frontier Touring, Liberation Music, Ivy League, Mushroom Music Publishing, Love Police ATM and [PIAS] Australia to name just a fraction.
