Michael Hohnen


Michael Hohnen is an ARIA-nominated producer with a 30-year music career and was Northern Territory’s 2013 Australian of the Year. A VCA graduate, he played and toured in the 80’s and 90’s with a chamber string orchestra and ARIA-winning pop band The Killjoys.

 In 1999, he and business partner Mark Grose created Aboriginal artist label Skinnyfish Music, playing on and producing many NT albums. His most recent work with Gurrumul saw him touring Australia, Asia and the US as music director of Gurrumul’s ensemble on the double bass.

He has worked with Sarah Blasko, Delta Goodrem, Tom E. Lewis and the late Ross Hannaford. More recently, he created a Skinnyfish sub label called Perambulator, releasing Barry Morgan (and his World of Organs), Michael Maher (Worldfly), Serina Pech and hip hop soul singer Caiti Baker (Sietta) and worked on collaborative projects with rapper Briggs.
