Artist, Holy Holy
Oscar Dawson is a composer, songwriter and musician, based in Melbourne. His time with the ARIA-nominated indie-rock outfit Dukes Of Windsor (2005-2010) took him throughout Australia and across to Europe.
Oscar currently plays in the band HOLY HOLY, who released their debut album ‘When The Storms Would Come’ in 2015. With extensive triple j airplay, support tours with acts such as The Preatures, Boy & Bear, Ballpark Music; festival slots at Splendour In The Grass, Primavera Sound (Barcelona) and Sounds Of The Suburbs; and a feature on triple j’s annual ‘Like A Version’ CD release, the album debuted at #11 on the ARIA album charts. The band has toured extensively, selling out most shows on their most recent Australian album tour, and having just arrived home from another run through the UK and Europe.
In the meantime, Oscar writes and produces with singer-songwriter Ali Barter. Her EP, entitled ‘AB-EP’ has just been released on the pair’s own imprint Ronnie Records. With lead single Hypercolour being added to high-rotation on triple j, and after support slots with War On Drugs, Vance Joy, The Rubens and Cloud Control, Barter was added to the lineup of Laneway Festival 2016. The pair is currently working on material for Barter’s debut album, due out in 2016.
Oscar also produces and writes with local artist Ben Wright Smith. His single No One, released again via Ronnie Records in early 2015, was placed on high rotation on triple j and saw Ben tour extensively throughout Australia, with support slots for artists such as Megan Washington, Meg Mac and The Preatures. New single Born Yawning has just been released and Oscar is now working closely with Ben on material for his debut album.
Oscar has collaborated as a session musician for artists such as Pez; Seth Sentry; Illy; Thelma Plum; MPhazes; Grey Ghost; Matik and Cash For Gold. He also writes music for film and TV, scoring several short films and documentaries, and winning in the ‘Best Music’ category at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival (2013) for his work on the short film ‘Belle De Jour’. He was also nominated in the ‘Best Music’ category at the St Kilda Film Festival (2013) for his work on the short ‘Swim’.
