Zola Jesus is the project of Seattle visionary Nika Roza Danilova, who crafts a shape-shifting mix of cinematic synth pop and darkly anthemic balladry, dominated by her operatic vocals. After abandoning an early interest in opera singing, Nika began making experimental noise recordings in her bedroom. She was inspired to revisit her classical vocal training for her fourth album, the orchestral Versions. For her fifth album, Taiga, she relocated to the isolated Vashon Island in the Puget Sound in an effort to immerse herself in the natural world, and began by writing songs completely a capella. Her mix of the traditional and futuristic has seen her heralded among America’s most compelling young musicians and at just 27 she has performed with Fever Ray and The XX and collaborated with David Lynch and M83.
